$50 – $300The Zen poet Basho travelled throughout Japan by foot, meeting new circumstances, and finding his home everyday. Considered Japan’s greatest haiku poet, Basho’s writings open our eyes to all that can be known in the world – suffering & joy, self & emptiness, life & death.

The zazenkai will run:
–Wednesday 11 Oct 7-8:45pm. (Beginner’s instruction at 6pm)
– Thursday, Friday, Saturday 12-14 Oct. 6:30 am- 8:45pm.
– Sunday 15 Oct- 6:30 am- 5pm
Thursday, Friday, Saturday the daily schedule is as follows:
6:30 Tea and zazen
7:30 Breakfast and break
8:45 Zazen, kinhin
10 Dharma talk
10:45 Zazen with dokusan
12 Lunch and break
1:15 Work practice
2:15 Qi gong
2:45 Tea and chanting
3:30 Zazen with dokusan
5:30 Dinner and break
6:45 Gyodo, brief Dharma talk, and zazen
8:45 Closing
Attendance options and fees: Sign up for half or whole zazenkai. Half time is either the first two days (Thursday, 10/12 and Friday 10/13) or the last two days (Saturday 10/14 and Sunday 10/15). No charge for Wednesday evening. Please register and plan to attend for full days.
In-person: Full-time cost: members $250/ non-member $300. Half-time cost: members $125/ non-member $150.
Zoom: Full-time cost: members $100/ non-member $130. Half-time cost: members $50/ non-member $65.
The retreat is non-residential. Out of towners– sangha members have offered their spare rooms for overnights- please contact the registrar if you need accommodations.
Meals: Two simple vegetarian meals will be served each day: a morning meal and an evening meal. PLEASE BRING A BAG LUNCH DAILY. While we cannot accommodate food preferences, please contact the registrar if you have serious food allergies, and we will do our best to help you.
