I vow to respect the dignity of other living beings and to do my best not to harm others.
Aware of the suffering caused by stealing
I vow to be generous and trustworthy.
Aware of the suffering caused by sexual misconduct
I vow to honor my romantic commitments and to cultivate lasting, loving relationships.
Aware of the suffering caused by lying
I vow to be truthful and considerate in my speech.
Aware of the suffering caused by the abuse of intoxicants
I vow to keep a clear mind and to study the roots of my cravings.

Commitment and Leadership
A Zen sangha is a diverse community, united by practice, with some choosing to deepen their commitment for the benefit of all.

Novice Curriculum
During the Novice Period, candidates commit to regular practice, study, and participation in temple life.

Shuso Curriculum
The Shuso path is a deepening of lay ordination, preparing a practitioner to serve as a teacher and leader within the sangha.

Ordination guidelines
Ordination is a deep, lifelong vow to the Dharma and to serving the sangha through dedicated practice and stewardship of the Zen tradition

Ordination Discernment Process
A discernment process for preceptors at PSZC and RZS, beginning with initial conversations and leading to a year-long Novice Period before ordination.
