We’ll look at the Heart Sutra as a text-what was its purpose as part of the larger Prajnaparamita collection of sutras? What can it tell us about the evolution of Buddhism in the early common era? How have different translators interpreted different parts of the text? We’ll go through the sutra line by line in Sanskrit and investigate.
Elizabeth is a preceptor, a past Board President of the Zen Center and an active member of the sangha. She is in her third year of Sanskrit classes at the University of Washington.
