April 2023 – Remembering Genko
In this season of new life, we remember our beloved teacher, Genko Kathy Blackman, who passed away on December 9, 2022. She taught and inspired us in dharma talks and in her presence; in how she lived and how she died.
Here are some thoughts from members and friends.
“Her goal was clear: to teach as much of the dharma as she could, for as long as she could. And with that clarity of mind, she plotted her course. I will miss her clear eyes, and her steady hand on the wheel.” – Myoshin Elizabeth Fitterer
“I wanted to understand how she could honestly care about inmates with such compassion and kindness and be so happy at the same time. I came to realize that I wanted to be more like her… Thank you for your guidance, patience and most of all showing us a better way.” – Mike Stowell
Miss the old beach log December’s storm Swept you free. – Anshin David Steel
