September 2022 – Officially Open and Growing!
On August 20, we welcomed roughly 200 people to a festive temple dedication. Thanks to all who made it such a meaningful and joyful celebration! The event highlighted our presence in this community, and our commitment to provide practice and fellowship to those who come here.
Our impact extends beyond Vashon. About 40% of our members live off of Vashon Island and in June, after a pause for the pandemic, Monday night sits resumed in West Seattle. The group has grown quickly, and we now have the fortunate problem of running out of cushions and chant books. I am grateful to mentors from Vashon and the Seattle area who have helped lead the sits, and to the West Seattle United Church of Christ, for providing a lovely space for zazen and kinhin.
Our members practice together on Vashon, in West Seattle, and (through their computers) in homes across the Puget Sound and beyond. We are living up to our name: the Puget Sound Zen Center.
