To honor this day, we will listen to an interview* with Jarvis Jay Masters, sit zazen, and have lightly facilitated, open discussion. Jarvis Jay Masters is an award winning author and poet, longtime Buddhist practitioner, and Black man who has been imprisoned in San Quentin prison for nearly 40 years on death row. The discussion format is adapted from buddhist practitioner and author Ruth King.

What is Juneteenth? Read commentaries on this holiday from local Black authors, published in Crosscut. This year, the Washington State legislature voted to make Juneteenth an official state holiday.

No cost to attend. All are welcome. Please pre-register so we can prepare accordingly. Register Here.

*This interview is generously made available to PSZC participants through the Black and Buddhist Summit.
_____

This event is organized by sangha members in the racial justice discussion group, which has held two reading & discussion series over the past year. We meet to explore ways that  Buddhist practice can help us recognize and respond to racism with wisdom and compassion.
