8:15 -12pm – Buddha’s Birthday – Hanamatsuri
May 7, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Please join us on Sunday, 7 May, for Buddha’s Birthday and Hanamatsuri (Flower Festival)- a celebration of the birth of Siddhartha Gautama, Shakyamuni.
ALL EARLY SITTING IS CANCELLED (no 7am or 8:30 zazen). Instead we will meet at 8:15 to build the “hanamido” or flower hall, that represents the Lumbini garden where the Buddha was born.
All are welcome- families, kids, neighbors. Coffee and snacks available as we work.
Bring some flowers and greenery from gardens, roadside, fields
Clippers and string are also useful
Regular service will begin at 10:00 with tea, chanting and two zazen periods, with kinhin in between. At 11:15 (kids welcome!) instead of a dharma talk, we will read the story of the Buddha’s birth. Fiore will sing a Hindi lullaby as all are invited to participate in the traditional bathing of the Baby Buddha. We’ll have a singalong lead by Fiore, and then adjourn for Birthday Cake!
ALL ARE WELCOME!
