5:00pm-6:30pm – Online Watch Party “Residue”
August 12, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
In the film “Residue”, a young man moves back to the Washington DC neighborhood where he grew up, only to find it completely transformed. Written and directed by Merawi Gerima, the 90 minute film is a profoundly emotional and artistic exploration of gentrification, racism, and erasure. Although fictional, it is based on his real experiences, and has been described as “a righteously angry meditation on people, place and time”.
We invite you to watch this film and join us in a discussion this August:
- Thursday, August 12th, 5 to 6:30: we will watch the movie online
(or watch it on your own, on Netflix, anytime before Saturday’s discussion). - Saturday, August 14th, 5 to 6:30: join us in a discussion, following a format adapted from Buddhist practitioner and author Ruth King.
No cost to attend. All are welcome. Please pre-register here to watch the film on Zoom with the group.
Please pre-register for the online discussion on August 14.
