Buddhism comes to China and over time blends with Taoism to become Chan, what we know as Zen. One of the earliest expressions of this blending comes in the teaching poem, “Trust in Mind,” attributed to the third Chinese Ancestor, Sengcan.
In this poem we are taught, “The great way is not difficult for those who have no preferences.” What? How can we possibly live in the world and realize these words? That question carries us into a text that is deep and richly nuanced. While encouraging us to set aside our habitual reactivity, “Trust in Mind” reveals a deeper unity with all of life and teaches us to respond to the world without getting ensnared by our personal preferences and opinions.
Please join us in this seven day sesshin at Camp Sealth, Vashon Island.
Dive deep in our seven-day Spring sesshin at beautiful Camp Sealth. This will be a formal residential retreat in the Rinzai tradition: seated and walking meditation, chanting, dharma talks, silent walks through the woods. Our teachers will be our Abbot, Koshin Chris Cain, and Eko Jeff Kelley, an Osho in the Soto tradition, who will offer optional interviews daily.
All meals (vegetarian) and dormitory-style accommodations (heat, electricity, bathrooms with showers) included. If you have questions, or if you have not previously attended a multi-day retreat, please contact the registrar at registrar@pszc.org. From out-of-town? The registrar will find you a place to stay the night before if needed.
The retreat will begin at 7pm on Sunday 21 April and end at 1:00pm Sunday April 28.
REGISTRATION: Both full-time and part-time registration options are available. Part-time registrants will attend either the first half or the 2nd half. The first half is Sunday-Wednesday (April 21, 22, 23, 24). The second half is Thursday-Sunday (April 25, 25, 27, 28). Seating is limited to 24 participants.
