Artist’s Mind – Zen Mind: Arts and Crafts Show at VCA
The work of about 25 well-known Vashon artists and craftspeople will be featured and available for purchase. Proceeds will be used to help develop the 6.8 acres of land, adjacent to the Harbor School, purchased by the PSZC in the spring of 2018.
On Friday, May 10 at 7:00 PM there will be a panel discussion on the subject of “Artists Mind – Zen Mind”. The panelists – Pam Ingalls, Bruce Morser, and Alex Echevarria – will describe the process by which they each create their art. What is their state of mind when they are working on their art? Do they focus on technique while they are working? Do they have the sense that they are personally creating their art or just witnessing its creation? Koshin Christopher Cain, the Abbot of the PSZC, will moderate the panel discussion. Work by all three artists will be on exhibit and available for purchase after the panel discussion. In addition to the work created by these and other Vashon Island artists and craftspeople, also available for sale will be scrolls of calligraphy from China and objects made from Japanese cotton and silk fabrics. Services provided by members of the PSZC (e.g. a kayak tour of historical sites around Quartermaster Harbor and a Japanese dinner for up to six people) will be offered in silent auctions. Refreshments, including bowls of matcha (the type of whisked green tea served at tea ceremonies and in Zen temples in Japan), will be available for purchase.
