Autumn Zazenkai (3 Day Retreat) – Dogen’s Three Heart-Minds

$40 – $175In his Instructions to the Tenzo, Dogen Zenji asks his monks to cultivate three minds: A joyful mind, a parent’s mind, and a vast mind. During this zazenkai we will look at what Dogen meant, and how developing these three minds can help us in our practice and our life.

The zazenkai will run:
– Thursday 13 Oct 7-8:45pm. (Registered participants will meet on Zoom)
– Friday and Saturday 14-15 Oct. 6:30 am- 8:45pm.
– Sunday 16 Oct- 6:30 am- 4:30pm
Friday and Saturday the daily schedule is as follows:
6:30 Tea and zazen
7:30-9 Breakfast and break
9-10 Zazen, kinhin
10 Dharma talk
10:45-12 Zazen with dokusan
12-1:30 Lunch and break
1:30-2:30 Work practice
2:30-3:00 Qi gong
3:00 – 3:30 Zazen, kinhin
3:30 – 4:00 Tea and chanting
4:00 -5:30 Zazen with dokusan
5:30-7 Dinner and break
7-8:45pm Dharma talk and zazen
8:45 Closing
Attendance options and fees: (please register and plan to attend for full days- no charge for Thursday evening)
In-person: daily fee: member $55/ nonmember $65. Full-time cost:: members $150/ non-member $175.
Zoom: daily fee: member $40/ nonmember $50. Full-time cost: members $100/ non-members $130
The retreat is non-residential. Out of towners– sangha members have offered their spare rooms for overnights- please contact the registrar if you need accommodations.
Meals: Two simple vegetarian meals will be served each day: a morning meal and an evening meal. PLEASE BRING A BAG LUNCH DAILY. While we cannot accommodate food preferences, please contact the registrar if you have serious food allergies, and we will do our best to help you.
